Weekly Journal Entries

Tuesday, 04.01.2011 Journal Entry 1

Today it was our first day and week of the class. I still remembered that I entered the class quite late because I thought Cendana 2 was where the class is but everyone has waited and sat at Cendana 1. When I arrived at the faculty, I did saw Dr. Izaham came and walked to Cendana 2 but he also was surprised that the class was locked. Then, when I saw he entered Cendana 1, I followed after him.

There, I saw some familiar faces like Ateff and Bahiyah. They were the two people I know since the Bachelor degree. *smiling* =) The rest however, it was my first time seeing them and I could not wait to get to know them. I sat next to a Chinese-look lady and it turned out that she is a Sabahan. No wonder! Hehe =) The first person to talked to me and introduced herself as Eva.

The class started with the introduction of the course, the outline of the course as well as the assessment. There will be no final exam for this course as everything will be on on-going marks. First day, and there was already a lecture for today. Masters degree will not be like Bachelor degree everyone! *shivers* This is the time where we had to be more diligent, reading skills must be sharpen, and must actively active to keep up in everything! *shivers even more* Though I have learned this course before, I still lack in some places, and so I hope that I will sharpen my skills of doing the research proposal more accurately.

The class went well, and I get to know more people. Will be looking forward to work with them all! Good night! =)

This week’s class was cancelled. Dr. Izaham had a meeting. Not much to say actually, just revising the subject on our own.

Tuesday, 18.01.2011 Journal Entry 3

Today’s class we have learned on Quantitative Research. From the word itself, ‘quantitative >> quantity’ shows that it involves numbers. Quantitative analysis is a numerical analysis in which the data collected is a numerical data on observable behaviours. Quantitative research is much differs than the Qualitative research in which Quantitative method focuses on population and sample while Qualitative research focuses more on the case study. There are several types of methodologies for the Quantitative Research and they are Experimental, Single subject, Correlational, Causal Comparative, and Survey. Here is the link to know more! Sooner or later, we are going to have group presentations that have been assigned from the first week. I get to do with Dixie and our topic is Ethnographic Research. Well, expect us soon!

Tuesday, 25.01.2011 Journal Entry 4

This week Dr. Izaham was still presenting on the Quantitative Research for a bit. However, after Dr. Izaham had done with the slides, it was the group presentation turns. The first group was Stephanie, Imran and Hasimi’s group. Their group presented on Correlational research. Then, the last group for that day was, Anita’s group. Other groups will be presented after the mid-term holiday.

It is Chinese New Year and mid-term holidays right now!!!
Happy holiday everyone!!!

Tuesday, 08.02.2011 Journal Entry 6

Today, Dr. Izaham finished on the Quantitative and Qualitative Research slides. It is such a long chapter..huhu..anyway, after that, we had only one presentation by our classmates. It was Sarah’s group. They presented on the Causal Comparative research. The funny thing was, while Dr. Izaham presented on his slides, Sarah and Umaizah were laughing of their slides which it was specifically the same as Dr. Izaham’s. We were like going to hear two presentations on the same topic...hehe =)

Well, I think the whole day ended with the presentation by their group. Next week there will be no class as it is a Maulidur Rasul. =)

Tuesday, 15.02.2011 Journal Entry 7

This week there was no class because it was Maulidur Rasul day. Salam Maulidur Rasul everyone! =)

Tuesday, 22.02.2011 Journal Entry 8

Today, the group presentation continued. My group was the first to present. My partner Dixie started first with the presentation. We presented on Ethnographic Research. It was very interesting actually when you get to know more about the Ethnographic Research. I really was very interested in trying to do the Ethnographic research, but I do not know when and where yet. The only thing about Ethnographic that makes me think twice is the tedious of doing so. It must be done in such a long period as the research is for wanting to discover new things or culture of the place you are researching for.

The next group was Bahiyyah’s group. They presented on Survey Research. After that, it was Syuhada and Marina’s group. They presented on Phenomenology Research. The research is quite almost to Ethnographic but still not the same. It was a long day, at last the class ended. Too tired to write more. good night everyone! =)

Tuesday, 01.03.2011 Journal Entry 9

Today, we had to submit our article review. Supposedly it was due last week, but even Dr. Izaham had forgotten about it. Then we had two more presentation before it was done. First it was Hazura’s group on Historical Method. Next, it was Ateff’s group with the topic Case Study. It was an interesting topic because case study and research are much the same with each other. However, there are several factors that differs case study with a research.

Tuesday, 08.03.2011 Journal Entry 10

Today, I was a bit puzzled because Dr. Izaham seems wanted to finish quickly the slides on Instuemnetation. Why? Why? It was because he wanted to consult us on the proposal outline that we had submitted before. His consultation with my proposal outline was just a moment. I mean, I was quite shocked because it only took a few moments. I thought I had just sat down for a few minutes and there was I standing up again. Others, some were too long with Dr. Izaham, and some was just average. I was getting worried. He had consulted me for just a moment. I hope that my format for the proposal was not wrong. So, that’s about it for today!

Tuesday, 15.03.2011 Journal Entry 11

Today, the whole day was only consultation for those who were still had not consulted their proposal outline. Seriously it took the whole evening. For those who had consulted Dr. Izaham, we were just sitting around and discuss on the groupwork we had. That is all for today! =)

Tuesday, 22.03.2011 Journal Entry 12

Data analysis! I still remembered that I really had a tough time doing my Academic Exercise. I had so much trouble with the data analysis at that time, but now I realized how it is such a simple thing. Well not to say it is that simple, but at least if you know how, you will get the hang of it. Especially when the time for you to key in the data, you really need to have the knowledge of SPSS because afterwards, we really have to know, what to analyze, which one is the variables and so on. Different methodologies from either Qualitative or Quantitative Research will provide with different analysis, depending on what are the variables and so much more. It was the last presentation by Dr. Izaham. Next week, everyone will have to present their proposal. Gosh! I am so nervous. Till we meet again!

Tuesday, 29.03.2011 Journal Entry 13

Proposal presentation was done today. Even though most of us had presented their proposal, there were still some left for the next week. I was so glad I had done with my proposal presentation. We had to present on some of the aspects within the research proposal such as the background of study, problem statement, research objectives and questions, methodology, instrumentation, and data analysis. I purposely chose simple topic for the proposal because I have decided not to use this topic for my dissertation. I wanted to do other topic than reading for the dissertation, but I still have no idea what. By the end of the class, everybody felt so tired and drained out after hearing all the proposals been proposed. Night everyone! =)

Tuesday, 05.04.2011 Journal Entry 14

I cannot believe that it was the last class for this course today! We had the second round of proposal presentation. Three more people to go. Plus, the last day for me, was quite frustrated, sad, and unhappy. Why?? We had our one and only test today! *sigh* I felt so dispirit after leaving the class. I really did not know whether I had done well or not. I just hope for the best and all the luck will be at my side. That was just about it! Toodles! Dr. Izaham, thank you for everything! May God bless us all! =)
